PROGRAMS PLANNING, PROJECTS, AND DEVELOPMENT

The Delta membership provides an extensive array of public services through its Five-Point Thrust, which embraces Social Action, Scholarship and Communication (Arts and Letters). Through this program the membership works to assist in eradicating educational, social and economic inequities. We express our values in building community projects for the public good. The organization's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust includes:

Economic Development - Financial planning, money management consumer education, investments and employment opportunities are but a few of Delta's money concerns under economic development. Some of Dade County Alumnae's Projects: Dade County Building Fund, Financial Seminars and Delta Boutique.

Educational Development - Each year, Dade County Alumnae provides Scholarships to female African American High School Seniors for their College education. Also, we work closely with our Delta GEMS and Delta Academy which concentrates on our high school young ladies development.

International Awareness and Involvement - Delta has a rich history of involvement in the international arena. This includes the building and maintenance of a maternity wing at the Thika Memorial Hospital in Kenya, West Africa, and identification of 1987 as the Delta International Year underscores Delta's commitment to understanding the world. Some of Dade County Alumnae's Projects: Haiti Relief Funds, Built House in Haiti.

Physical and Mental Health - Concerns about America's physical and mental health have not escaped Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Delta's work in prevention and wellness translates to health educating programs, health fairs and the provision of health care services. Delta also supports medical research that examines illnesses that victimize specific segments of the country's population. Some of Dade County Alumnae's Projects: Susan B. Komen - Bronze Sponsor, Health Fair in Miami-Gardens, Fire-Fighters Blood Pressure Check and Weight Challenge.

Political Awareness and Involvement - Though no-partisan in nature and purpose, Delta understands the importance of and the need for an informed electorate. Delta's concern for the public's need to know and the enfranchisement of all Americans has been the philosophical basis for public service programs in this area. Voter registration and voter education programs, workshops and seminars highlighting elected public official assessment and accountability are ongoing.
