The Dade County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has consistently served the South Florida community of Dade County in the areas of Educational Development, Economic Development, International Awareness & Involvement, Physical & Mental Health and Political Awareness & Involvement. The Chapter’s desire to provide quality public service is evident in the following accomplishments and/or programs:

Putting On The Ritz -- Established in February 1984, Putting on the Ritz is Dade County Alumnae Chapter’s only scholarship fundraiser. Funds from this event are earmarked for college scholarships and public service projects.

UNCF HOUR IN RED -- In 1991, the Chapter initiated and implemented the Delta Sigma Theta Hour in Red during the Lou Rawls annual UNCF College Telethon. In conjunction with other South Florida Delta Chapters, this effort has generated approximately $150,000 in scholarships. As a result of this initiative, in 1996, Dade County Alumnae was honored by the FedEx Orange Bowl committee for excellence in community service and education.

Project Love -- Implemented in 1996, Project Love provides assistance to the mentally and physically challenged students of the community. The Chapter embarked on this project to enhance the ability of these special students to interact with individuals outside the home and school environment. Utilizing the talents and resources of members, volunteers, social service agencies and the business community, each student receives training and education designed to develop their self-esteem and employability skills.

Project 2000: SOS (SCHOLARSHIP + OPPORTUNITY = SUCCESS) -- Project 2000 is an award winning innovative six year program implemented in 1993-94 to enhance the educational, cultural, social and interpersonal skills of twenty gifted and talented minority students who show great leadership potential. Providing enrichment activities for the students since the sixth grade, each student will be presented a $2,000 scholarship upon graduation in the year 2000. Project 2000 received Delta’s first place award for Exemplary Programs at the 42nd National Convention in St. Louis.

Project CODE RED -- Initiated in 2001, this HIV/AIDS Education and Awareness initiative included an aggressive approach to combat HIV/AIDS including training, literature distribution, Delta Showers for women at risk and donations of toys to the Children of families living with AIDS.

DeltaCare, Inc. -- 501(c) (3) Organization established in 2002 following a successful Founders Day Celebration that focused on the community’s need to be committed to the battle against HIV/AIDS.
